The Story Behind My Wishes…

For over 80 years, my husband's family has been running a funeral business, helping families navigate one of life’s most challenging moments. One day, during a casual conversation about a lady who had prepaid for a funeral plan, I found myself wondering: "What did she truly want for her farewell?"

My husband explained that while she had taken the thoughtful step of paying for her funeral in advance, a funeral plan didn’t actually allow for specific wishes to be made —just the financial arrangements.

I was struck by the idea. This woman had clearly wanted to prepare, to ease the burden on her family, but what if she had wanted more control over her send-off?

What if she wanted to choose the music, the readings, the people to speak, and other personal touches?

And if she was conscious of these decisions, why shouldn’t she have the opportunity to make them?

That was the moment when My Wishes was born.

In my own experience, having lost close family members, I know all too well the emotional strain of making decisions in a time of grief. The last thing we want to do when mourning is scroll through endless lists of music or try to figure out last-minute details.

What if, instead, we could plan ahead and create a meaningful, personalised farewell that truly reflects our lives and values?

I envisioned My Wishes not just as a guide for funeral planning but as a keepsake, a beautiful book that combines practical instructions with the personal memories and reflections of a lifetime. Why not share the music that moves us, the readings that inspire us, and the people we want to honor in our final moments? Why not leave a legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories that can be passed down through generations?

My Wishes is designed to blend the timeless comfort of a handwritten keepsake with the practical needs of modern funeral planning. It's a place for your thoughts, your wishes, and your legacy to live on in good old-fashioned ink—a way to ensure that your memories are forever cherished, long after you're gone.

I hope that My Wishes is more than just a book.

I hope it’s a treasured keepsake, passed down through the generations, a reminder of the love, laughter and moments that made your life special.
